ANOTHER BUSY WEEKEND:

Well it has been a busy weekend at Weardale Railway. Saturday saw visitors from Stone Valley Festival in Stanhope travelling on the train and yesterday we had visitors from New Zealand. Today our volunteers are taking a well deserved break.

Our volunteers are always a busy bunch. This weekend we had two volunteers training as Crossing Keepers. On the train we had two trainee Guards working alongside two of our experienced guards and also the secondman refreshing his knowledge of the Bubble Car . The Travelling Ticket Inspectors were busy selling Tickets on the train whilst at Wolsingham Station one of volunteers was there to meet and greet the passengers that boarded there.

At Stanhope Station the work continued. In Control we had people training each day with the Controller. The shop at Stanhope was staffed each day. We also had volunteers helping out with Station Maintenance.

If anyone is interested in volunteering you must first become a member of the Trust contact Ruth Carroll RCarroll@britamrail.com for further information.

NEWS UPDATE, 27 JUNE 2014:

A WORD FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF WEARDALE RAILWAY TRUST:

Well we've done it ! Two weekends under our belt with running Heritage Services and I have a cautious air of optimism about it all. We are covering our costs, our customers are giving good feedback and all of our volunteers appear to be happy and enjoying themselves. The unabated support from WRCIC continues and we have a good working relationship with them.

Thanks to everyone for all the hard work in setting this up and for the continued hard work that is going to be needed for the rest of the season. We must not rest on our laurels though; we need to be thinking on how to build on this solid start and indeed what we are going to be doing next year ? We will have a working steam loco next year, so we need to consider how this will fit in with our plans.

Fingers crossed; lets hope the solid start we have made continues.

Richard Maughan
Chairman

Travellers enjoyed a trip through the Dale which looked it's best in the pleasant weather, especially on the Saturday. On the Sunday, several families brought Dad and took advantage of the Fathers Day, Dad Goes for a Fiver offer.

All in all a successful start to this new venture which covered the weekends running costs. This week the Bubblecar has been cleaned and serviced ready for the forthcoming weekends operation which hopefully will attract similar numbers of passengers.
